Forex market hours in your time zone, with the daily candle close

Every hours page gives you a different time, and in the end you decide with the daily candle half formed, an hour before it closes. This tool shows you on your own clock when the forex market opens and closes and when the daily and weekly candles close, with the time change already counted.

Forex market hours by country

The market opens on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. New York time and closes on Friday at the same time, and the daily candle of most MetaTrader brokers closes at that hour every day. In your country that time moves when the United States changes its clocks, and again if your country changes its clocks too. The table already counts that, with the date of each change.

Local time (24-hour clock) of the Sunday open, the Friday close and the close of every daily candle (5:00 p.m. New York time), and their clock changes over the next 12 months. Calculated on October 17, 2026.

Christmas Day and New Year's Day

On December 25 and January 1 most brokers don't open the forex market, because the big financial centers are closed, and the day before they usually close early. Your broker publishes the exact hours every year, and these are the next dates, with their day of the week:

  • Christmas Day: Friday, December 25, 2026
  • New Year's Day: Friday, January 1, 2027

Forex sessions in your time: Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York

The market sessions have no official hours and every page gives its own. In this tool we use the working day of each city, 9:00 to 18:00 in Sydney and Tokyo and 8:00 to 17:00 in London and New York, each with the clock change of its city (Tokyo has none). Sydney changes its clocks the other way round from Europe and the United States, because their summer is in December.

The four sessions in each country's time (24-hour clock), the week of October 19, 2026 (Sydney and Tokyo from 9:00 to 18:00 their time; London and New York from 8:00 to 17:00 theirs)

What time does the forex market open and close?

The currency market opens on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. New York time and closes on Friday at the same time, and in between it's open day and night. The daily candle at most MetaTrader brokers closes at that same time every day, and the weekly candle on Friday, with the market. In your country that time is the one in the table above, with the clock changes already included.

An example: the week the UK and New York are out of step

Europe and the United States change their clocks in different weeks, and in those weeks the daily candle close moves an hour in the UK without anybody warning you.

From Sunday, October 25 to Friday, October 30, 2026, the daily candle in the UK closes at 21:00 and not at 22:00, because the UK has already changed its clocks and New York hasn't yet. In Lagos, Johannesburg, Mumbai and Sydney the close doesn't move that week: their clocks aren't changing, so it only moves when New York changes its clocks.

What to do with this

On daily and weekly charts, the time doesn't matter for sitting in front of the screen. It matters for the candle close. A daily candle that's half formed can look like a trigger at noon and stop being one at the close, because the price still has hours to turn around. That's why I look at the chart with the candle already closed, and without hurry.

Even with the candle closed there's no rush. In the LDP (Lenguaje del Precio) method I wait for the daily and the weekly to be on my side, and then for the trigger on the close of a candle, with a relevant Level nearby. If the chart doesn't confirm, there's no entry. That wait is what costs most of us, and the emotional muscle that holds it isn't built by reading: you build it by speculating, with a little more weight each week.

How we calculate it and how to check it

There is a single reference: 5:00 p.m. New York time. That's when the market opens on Sunday, closes on Friday and closes every daily candle at most MetaTrader brokers, which set their server to UTC+2 in winter and UTC+3 in US summer so that the server's midnight falls right at that hour. The tool turns that 5:00 p.m. into your country's time with the time zone database of your own browser, the same one your phone uses to change the clock, so the clock change comes already counted, with no hand-written lists of dates.

That's why the local time moves when the United States changes its clocks (the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November) and, if your country changes its clocks too, again when yours does. The UK changes them on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October, and Australia in October and April. Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, India, Singapore and Japan don't change them at all.

If another page gives you a different time for a session, it's because the sessions have no official hours, and we use the working day of each city, with its clock change, always inside the market week. That doesn't change the candle close.

For your broker, the tool takes the time your server shows in MetaTrader, works out its difference with UTC and tells you what time in your country the server's midnight falls, which is when your broker closes the daily candle.

These are some of the sums we worked out by hand to test the tool:

Frequently asked questions

What time does the forex market open on Sunday?

At 5:00 p.m. New York time, which in your country is the time in the table above. In Nigeria, for example, it's 10:00 p.m. from the second Sunday of March until the first Sunday of November, and 11:00 p.m. the rest of the year. With the Sunday open the Monday daily candle begins.

What time does the forex market close on Friday?

The market closes on Friday at 5:00 p.m. New York time, and the Friday daily candle and the weekly candle close with it. There are no new prices until Sunday at the same hour, even though news keeps coming out over the weekend, and that's why the price can open far from where it closed.

What time does the daily candle close in forex?

At most MetaTrader brokers, the daily candle closes at 5:00 p.m. New York time, because they set their server to UTC+2 or UTC+3 so that the server's midnight falls at that hour. If your broker's server is on another time zone, its candle closes at another hour, and you can check it above, under "What time does the candle close at your broker?"

Does the forex market close on weekends?

Yes. It's closed on Saturday, on Sunday until 5:00 p.m. New York time and on Friday from that hour. Banks stay shut but news doesn't, so the Sunday open can gap away from Friday's close.

Is the forex market open 24 hours?

From Sunday at 5:00 p.m. New York time to Friday at the same hour, day and night. If every page gives you a different time, it's because some give GMT, others a country's time and others New York's, and most ignore the clock changes: a table that says 4:00 p.m. in Chicago without saying which weeks it means is wrong for part of the year. Here everything comes from 5:00 p.m. New York time, converted with the time zone database of your browser.

How many forex sessions are there?

Four: Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York. They have no official hours, so every page uses its own. Here we use the working day of each city (9:00 to 18:00 in Sydney and Tokyo, 8:00 to 17:00 in London and New York) with its own clock changes. London and New York overlap for a few hours, and that's when there's usually more movement.

Does daylight saving time change forex market hours?

The market itself doesn't change, but the hour on your clock does. It always opens and closes at 5:00 p.m. New York time, and New York changes its clocks on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November. If your country also changes its clocks, the time moves again when yours does, and for a few weeks a year Europe and the United States are out of step. Countries with no clock changes, like Nigeria, India and Japan, see the time move only when New York changes.

What is the best time to trade forex?

It depends on the time frame you speculate on. On the daily and the weekly, which is how we work at TendenciasFX, the best time is the one that lets you look at the chart with the candle already closed, and calmly, so after the close time in the table above. If you speculate in minutes, some hours do have more movement than others, like when London and New York are open at the same time. But on the daily and the weekly I'd say you only need to know when the candle closes, without sitting in front of the screen at any particular hour.

What are the forex market hours in India?

The market opens on Monday at 2:30 a.m. Indian time from the second Sunday of March until the first Sunday of November, and at 3:30 a.m. the rest of the year, and it closes on Saturday at the same hour. India doesn't change its clocks, so the time only moves when New York changes. The daily candle closes at that same hour every day.

What time does the forex market close in Nigeria?

On Friday at 10:00 p.m. Nigerian time from the second Sunday of March until the first Sunday of November, and at 11:00 p.m. the rest of the year. Nigeria doesn't change its clocks, so it's New York that moves the time. The daily candle closes at that hour every day, too.

Does the forex market close on Christmas and New Year's Day?

On December 25 and January 1 most brokers don't open the currency market, because the big financial centers are closed, and on the 24th and the 31st they usually close early. Your broker publishes the exact hours every year, and which day of the week they fall on this year is above, under the table by country.

Is the forex market open on holidays?

Mostly yes. When it's a holiday in one country, the market stays open because the rest of the world is working, although that country's currency moves less. The exceptions are December 25 and January 1, when most brokers don't open. Your broker publishes the exact hours.

What time does the weekly candle close in forex?

On Friday at 5:00 p.m. New York time, with the close of the market, and the next one starts on Sunday at that same hour, with the open. In your country it's the time in the table above, the same as the daily candle close.

Why does my MT4 chart show a different time?

Because MetaTrader shows the time of your broker's server, which can be different from your country's. At most brokers the server is on UTC+2 in winter and UTC+3 in US summer, so the daily candle closes at the server's midnight, which is 5:00 p.m. New York time. You can leave it alone, because all you need is to know what time in your country that midnight falls.

Why is there a tiny candle on Sunday on my chart?

Because your broker has its server on a time zone where the Sunday open still falls on a Sunday, UTC for example. Those few hours make a candle of their own, a small one, and your daily candles are no longer the ones of the great majority of brokers, so the Levels you draw on them can come out different. With the server on UTC+2 or UTC+3 it doesn't happen.

Watching the clock so you don't decide with the candle half formed is tiring

In MetaTrader, TFX-Trader, one of our tools, puts a clock next to the live candle showing how long is left until it closes, already on your broker's time, and 20 seconds before the close an alarm sounds, so you're in front of the chart when the candle closes. And the candle counter numbers the candles of the day or the week, so you don't count them by hand.

Where the data comes from

  • The hours: the IANA time zone database, the one phones and computers carry, with each country's clock changes. It uses the copy your browser has; if your browser is very old, it may not know a recent change, like Paraguay's fixed time since 2024.
  • The reference hour, 5:00 p.m. New York time: the one used by the great majority of MetaTrader brokers, which put their server on UTC+2 or UTC+3 depending on US time.
  • The sessions: the working day of each city, because they have no official hours.
  • Christmas Day and New Year's Day: the calendars brokers publish every year, and the days TARGET, the European Central Bank's payment system, is closed, among them December 25 and January 1.

The clock changes are calculated again every time you open the page, with your device's date.

This is information, not investment advice, and it doesn't say when to enter any pair. The page doesn't use cookies or ask you for any data. Your browser remembers the country you pick, for next time.
